Tired of dealing with stubborn body hair that grows back just days after you shave? Or irritation and pesky ingrowns that make your skin feel anything but smooth? You’re not alone. Waxing for men has become a go-to hair removal option for areas like the back, chest, ears, Brazilian area, and everywhere in between. It delivers a level of smoothness that shaving doesn’t — with results that lasts far longer.
So, if you’ve ever wondered what the waxing process is really like, how to prepare, or whether it’s right for you, this guide has you covered. We’ll walk you through what happens at a professional appointment, the advantages of letting the pros handle hair removal, and the best ways to care for your skin afterward. Let’s jump in.
What are the benefits of waxing for men?
For starters, unlike shaving, waxing removes hair from the root. That means skin stays smoother for longer, often up to several weeks, while helping reduce the look and feel of ingrown hairs and irritation. This can be especially helpful for thicker or coarser body hair.
Whether you want to target the back, chest, or pubic area, or go for a full-body wax, professional waxing can make your grooming routine feel easier and more manageable. With fewer upkeep sessions and longer-lasting results, it’s a smart option for men who are busy, active, or simply ready for a cleaner, smoother feel. Long story short: Waxing is often the simple solution men wish they found sooner.
Curious what that might mean for you? Let’s explore these benefits in more detail.
1. Long-lasting smoothness & fewer ingrowns
One of the biggest benefits of waxing for men is how long the smoothness lasts. Unlike shaving, which cuts hair at the surface, waxing removes hair from the root, with results that can last two to four weeks. So, here’s how it works: As regrowth happens, hair often comes back feeling softer and is less likely to curl back into the skin. Bye, ingrowns!
Over time, regular waxing can even lead to finer, sparser hair regrowth, making it a smart, low-maintenance option if you’re seeking consistent results. Regular waxing, gentle exfoliation, and proper aftercare — like moisturizing and wearing loose clothing — also help support smoother skin and fewer ingrowns. (We’ll get into aftercare best practices specifics shortly.)
That longer-lasting smoothness offered by waxing can be especially helpful if:
- You want to spend less time grooming each week
- You’re managing hard-to-reach areas like the back
- You want a cleaner feel for workouts, travel, or warm weather
- You dislike the feel of prickly regrowth, bumps, or irritation after shaving
Many men find that switching from shaving to waxing leads to fewer bumps and leaves skin looking smoother overall.
2. Convenience & ease
With results lasting weeks, regular waxing means less time spent on daily grooming and fewer worries about stubble, razor burn, or missed spots. Our professional waxing services also use a specific wax type (hard or soft) designated for each area and hair type, making hair removal more efficient and comfortable.
Once you know how your skin responds and how quickly your hair grows back, it will become even easier to build waxing into your routine.
3. Confidence
There’s something powerful about feeling clean, smooth, and comfortable in your own skin. Whether you’re heading to the gym, going to work, traveling, or just hanging out, a polished grooming routine can help reduce self-consciousness.
Over time, waxing appointments can fit naturally into your schedule, making it easier to feel put together without adding more to your daily routine. With fewer worries about stubble or irritation, waxing is about more than appearance. It’s about feeling confident, comfortable, and in control.
What else should be considered before waxing?
While waxing for men offers many benefits, it’s important to know that ingrown hairs can still happen. Skin type, hair texture, friction from clothing, sweat, and aftercare all play a role. Waxing also doesn’t mean hair never comes back — but it can break the short, repetitive cycle that often comes with shaving and often, that can make all the difference.
Some temporary sensitivity, like mild redness or tenderness, is also common, especially for first-timers or those waxing larger or sensitive areas (think: chest, back, or pubic region).
In some cases, men may experience a breakout after waxing, especially on the back and chest. (Men’s skin tends to be more oily so once the hair is gone the follicle can fill up with natural oils that cause the breakout.) For this reason, we recommend avoiding waxing for the first time right before a big event. Instead, aim to get one or two waxes before the big day or beach vacation.
While breakouts can happen, it will get better with each wax and an at-home regimen. Talk to your Cerologist about the best ways to minimize this after your wax.
Finally, these factors can also affect how waxing feels:
- Whether it’s your first time
- The thickness and density of your hair
- The area of your body that’s being waxed
- Your general sensitivity level
- Hair length (Note: It needs to be at least ¼” in order to be waxed)
Keep in mind that the short-term reactions mentioned above are a normal response to hair removal from the root, and usually fade quickly. Choosing professional waxing services with our expertly trained Cerologists ensures the right wax is used for your skin type, which can help minimize potential irritation.
A note about your first appointment
Because the hair on your body hasn’t been on a waxing cycle yet, first appointments can feel more intense than subsequent appointments. But if you’re used to shaving irritation, razor burn, and itchy regrowth, it can help to compare the full experiences rather than focusing on the moment of hair removal during waxing.
To help make your first appointment more comfortable, you may also consider taking an over-the-counter pain reliever, such as ibuprofen, about 30 minutes beforehand.
The good news: Many guests find that each appointment gets easier. As you get more familiar with the process, you’ll know what to expect and can settle into a routine that feels smooth from start to finish, so don’t worry too much!
Types of waxing for men
So, what types of waxing services are available? Men’s waxing services can be customized based on the area you want to groom, the amount of hair you want removed, and the final look you’re after. Whether you’re looking for a small touch-up or more complete hair removal, we’ve got options.
Chest waxing
Chest shaving can be a whole production: prickly regrowth, uneven patches, and the kind of stubble that shows up before you’ve even had time to enjoy the smooth. Chest waxing helps you skip the daily razor routine by removing hair from the collarbone down to your hip bones for a cleaner, longer-lasting result.
Back waxing
Back hair is tricky for one obvious reason: unless you’re part contortionist, it’s hard to reach on your own. For a full back wax, hair is waxed from the base of the neck to the small of your back, including your shoulders, so you get a smoother finish without the mirror gymnastics.
If you only need part of your back waxed, we offer upper or lower back waxing as a half-back service. It’s a great option for cleaning up the areas that bother you most without committing to the whole map.
Ear waxing
Ear hair has a special talent for appearing out of nowhere. Ear waxing removes hair from the outer ear and earlobe to create a clean, neat appearance. This service is a quick way to target visible hair in a small area with smooth, longer-lasting results.
Nose waxing
Trimming nose hair can feel like a tiny, high-stakes landscaping project. A nose waxing service removes hair just inside the nostrils to clean up visible nose hair, meaning only the hair near the edge of the nostrils is waxed. Translation: You’ll literally breathe easier.
Brow (& between the brows) waxing
We offer both types! Our brow waxing service starts with an assessment exploring your ideal brow. Then, we’ll expertly wax, trim, and tweeze to achieve their best shape. For between the brow waxing, we wax between your brows and trim where necessary.
Note: If you use retinol or other strong exfoliating skincare products, let your Cerologist know before any facial waxing service, including ear, nose, and brow waxing.
Bikini waxing
The bikini line is not exactly a forgiving place for a razor. Think bumps, irritation, share regrowth, and the occasional nick that no one invited. During a bikini wax, hair is removed from outside the underwear line for a cleaner, more groomed look. This is a great option if you want to tidy the area without removing everything.
Legs & arms
Shaving your arms or legs can turn into a time-consuming loop: Shave, miss a spot, feel the stubble return, repeat. Depending on how much hair you want removed, you can choose from full or half leg and arm waxing. Full services remove hair across the entire leg or arm, while half services focus on either the upper or lower portion for more targeted maintenance.
Male Brazilian wax
A Brazilian wax treatment removes all hair from the full pubic area, front to back, including everything in between. You also have the option to leave a small section of hair if you don’t want to go completely bare. If you want a more complete result, this service offers the smoothest finish and can be customized based on your preference.
Some men choose Brazilian waxing in order to reduce hair over time (with consistent waxing appointments), avoid irritation that can come with other hair removal methods like shaving, and allow a professional to get cleaner, more consistent results. (A male Brazilian wax includes those areas that can be hard to reach on your own.)
What to expect before, during & after your appointment
First time waxing? We’ve got you. Knowing what to expect can help you feel more comfortable before you arrive, during your service, and after you leave the studio. Use the tips below to prep with confidence, support smoother results, and make your appointment feel as easy as possible.
Pre-wax exfoliation
Before your appointment, gently exfoliate the area that will be waxed a few days in advance. This helps remove dead skin buildup so hair can be removed more effectively. Keep the area clean and moisturized, but avoid heavy oils before your visit. (Bonus tips: Make sure hair is at least ¼”-½” long and avoid spray tanning and sun exposure before your appointment.)
Appointment overview
During your appointment, your Cerologist will start by showing you to your private room and talking through the look you want to achieve. This is your time to ask questions, share preferences, and get comfortable with the plan before the service begins.
Depending on the area being waxed, you may be given a modesty drape. In this case, your Cerologist will leave the room for you to undress, and once you’re ready, they’ll come back and guide you through each step as they remove unwanted hair. No guesswork, no awkward mystery, just a professional process designed to help you feel comfortable and cared for.
(Bonus: Our environment is gender-neutral, with colors and ambience that are inviting and comfortable for everyone in the studio.)
Post-wax care
After your appointment, your skin deserves a little breathing room. To maintain your results and skin health, avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, hot tubs, heavy lotions, and exfoliation for 24-48 hours after your appointment. Your Cerologist can also provide aftercare tips based on your specific service — just ask!
Keep these tips in mind to support better results after waxing:
- Avoid excessive sweating (this can cause breakouts)
- Avoid standing water (bacteria can enter open follicles)
- Avoid heavy friction in freshly waxed areas
- Exfoliate gently once the skin is no longer sensitive
- Wear loose, breathable clothing right after a wax
- Keep skin clean and moisturized as recommended
