How to prepare for your eyebrow wax.

skin exfoliation

We recommend that you exfoliate the area a day or two prior to your appointment. Thoroughly clean the area, keeping the skin moist but not greasy from heavy moisturizers, serums, or oils.

LET IT GROW

Brow hair should be 1/4″ to 1/2” long for effective waxing. For most people, this means waiting 2-4 weeks (minimum of 2) from the last time you tweezed or shaved.

SUN EXPOSURE

We recommend that you avoid extreme sun exposure for 48 hours before and after your brow wax. If you are getting a spray tan (on your face), we would recommend getting your tan 1-2 days after your wax. This will ensure your skin is hair-free and has had time to recover.

Eyebrow waxing FAQ

The beauty of waxing is knowing you’ll be hair-free for a minimum of 1-2 weeks following your wax appointment. That said, waxing is a process, and the more consistently you do it the better the results.

Expect regrowth quicker after the first wax, but with consistent waxing month after month, you will start to see the hair stay away for longer periods of time. Waxing lasts much longer than shaving, as shaving only cuts hair at the surface, while waxing removes the hair from the root.

It’s recommended that you get an eyebrow wax every 2 to 4 weeks to maintain the shape and cleanliness of your brow lines. Of course, it can vary depending how quickly your hair grows. For more information on how often to get an eyebrow wax, as well as other waxing services, click here.

We suggest hair be 1/4″ to 1/2” long for effective waxing. Hair that’s longer than 1/2” can make waxing more complicated, as it’s prone to breakage when waxed off for first-timers. This means the follicle won’t be removed and your results won’t last as long. Long hair can also cover up other hairs during a wax, which requires repeated waxes of the same area.

Prices and services vary by location, so let’s find the Waxing the City location nearest you.

Of course! Brow waxing is for everyone.

The million-dollar question, “does waxing hurt?” is nearly impossible to answer! Everyone has a different scale for pain tolerance and what is painful for someone may not bother someone else.

However, at Waxing the City, both our wax and our process work together to offer you the most comfortable service possible. If you’re still worried about managing sensitivity, we recommend taking an ibuprofen or aspirin roughly 30 minutes before your appointment to help maximize your comfort.

Pro tip: Waxing more frequently will help with sensitivity as hair grows back finer and sparser!

Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Make sure to avoid heavy moisturizers, serums, or oils.
  • Don’t tweeze or shave before an eyebrow waxing service, as it can irritate the skin, and of course, it will leave the hair too short to wax properly.
  • In order to ensure the most comfortable wax experience, we recommend that you avoid sun exposure for 48 hours before and after your wax.
  • Avoid drinking a big cup of coffee before your next service as caffeine can increase your sensitivity levels.

Absolutely. We will do everything we can to make our pregnant clients feel as comfortable as possible during their waxing service.

In order to ensure the most comfortable eyebrow waxing experience, we recommend that you avoid sun exposure for 48 hours before and after your eyebrow waxing service.

This goes for sunless tanning, too. If you get a spray tan before your wax appointment, it will remove some of the color from your skin, leaving it splotchy and possibly irritated.

Before: You don’t necessarily need to take a shower before an eyebrow waxing service, but a quick face rinse is useful in allowing the Cerologist to work on clean skin. That said, the Cerologist will certainly clean the area thoroughly before beginning the brow wax.

We recommend refraining from wearing any cosmetics around the brow the day of your appointment, if possible (particularly concealer, foundation, eyeshadow, brow filler, or brow powder).

After: We don’t suggest taking a shower immediately after an eyebrow waxing service. Try to wait at least 2 hours after hair removal. If you do need to shower, use lukewarm water on the waxed area. Warm or hot water may irritate the skin.

No! In fact, if you get your hair waxed consistently, you’ll find that it starts to take longer for your hair to grow back. Additionally, the hair can grow back thinner and finer, and the more you wax, the more you’ll see those results.

Our licensed cosmetologists and estheticians are not only waxing and beauty specialists — they are the ultimate professionals at their craft. To reflect their expertise, we created our own name: Cerologist. Looking for the definition of a Cerologist? Cerologist combines cera (Latin for wax) with ologist (to indicate their waxing authority and education).

Certain medications, isotretinoin or tretinoin (aka retinoic acid) can thin your skin, causing potential for tearing during an eyebrow waxing appointment. Let your Cerologist know if you’re taking or applying any prescriptions. Your Cerologist will ask you to complete an intake form when you arrive for your appointment.

There are a few things you might see post-wax, and they’re totally normal! These include:

  • Bumps: Irritated skin may cause some bumps to appear, but they’ll likely go away on their own within hours or days. As part of your wax aftercare, try our Post-Wax Serum to help soothe the skin if needed. Just ask your Cerologist to point you in the right direction.
  • Redness: Skin redness can disappear anywhere between a few minutes to a few days.
  • Itching: Try not to scratch. Itching usually occurs in between appointments when hair starts to grow back, but exfoliation can help.
  • Stubble: Everyone’s hair grows in different cycles, so it’s possible that hairs below the skin’s surface may sprout after your wax. Sometimes, dry or brittle hair can break during a wax service, so be sure to keep everything moisturized. To help prevent further skin irritation, we recommend using our Post-Wax Serum

Note: Avoid tweezing between brow waxes. Plucking a stray brow here and there is fine in an emergency only. Brow hairs have different growth cycles, and waxing removes hairs at the same growth stage, which can eventually lead to hairs growing back at the same time. This makes it easier to maintain the shape longer. Tweezing disrupts this cycle by removing hairs at different stages, which can lead to a more constant need for grooming. This will ensure that your brow shape best enhances your eyes and face.
