Caring for laminated brows starts before your appointment

It’s true! To get the best results from your eyebrow lamination (bye-bye, unruly brow hairs!), follow these simple guidelines:

Stop using retinols and AHAs at least two days before your appointment to avoid reactions with the lamination cream.
Don’t wax, thread, or tweeze your brows immediately before your brow lamination service to prevent irritation. (For best results, leave the hair removal to us!)

1. Keep your hands off!

We know it’s tempting to touch and feel the smooth, tailored results of a fresh brow lamination, but it could fumble your results. Avoid touching, rubbing, or styling your brows for the first 24 hours while they set.

2. Rock your no-makeup skin for 24 hours post-lamination

Keep makeup products away from your brows for at least a day after your appointment to prevent irritation and allow the lamination products to work their magic.

3. Avoid getting eyebrows wet for 24 hours

Skip the steamy saunas, hot showers, and intense workouts for at least a day after your appointment to allow your brows to set. (Stick to normal-temperature yoga for a day!)

4. Wait a week before adding your next facial to the calendar

Allow at least seven days before treating yourself to a facial after getting your brows laminated. This ensures that no other products can interfere with your results.

5. Opt for gentle, hydrating skincare products

9 Things Your Cerologist Wants You to Know

No matter if you’re a waxing pro or new to the world of wax, there are a few things your Cerologist wants you to know to ensure each appointment is an experience you look forward to. We asked and they answered: here are the top 9 things your Cerologist hopes you know:

1. It’s a Judgement-Free Zone

Worried about what your Cerologist will think about your appearance? Don’t. This might be the most common worry many people have going into any waxing salon. What if I’m too hairy? What if I look different from other people? Stop yourself right there! Our Cerologists have performed services on thousands of women and men, so they’ve seen it all. For them, your appointment is another opportunity to help you look and feel confident, so if you’re worried that you’re too hairy or look too different, know that there is no such thing at Waxing the City.

2. Preparation Is Key

If you want your results to be smooth and long-lasting, what you do before your appointment is important. There are several things you should avoid before your wax. This includes sunbathing, working out, drinking alcohol and trimming. The harsh UVA/UVB rays can cause potential inflammation while working out can cause the wax to not adhere to your skin. Trimming before waxing is a big no-no, no matter how tempting, and remember, your hair should be at least a quarter inch in length (think the length of a grain of rice) when you’re getting a wax.

3. Ask The Questions!

Whether you’re a first timer or a Club Orange member, you will always have questions about the procedure, products, aftercare or your Cerologist’s recommendations. Don’t hesitate to ask any questions or express any concerns you might have like “what should I expect in my first Brazilian wax?“. After all, this appointment is for you. Your Cerologist wants you to feel comfortable; if you want your end result to look a certain way, don’t be afraid to speak up. Once you have all your burning questions answered, you’ll be able to relax throughout your appointment and enjoy being smooth as ever!

4. Leave It to The Pros

Resist the temptation to DIY your wax. Unless you’re an at-home waxing expert (and no, watching YouTube videos on how to wax does not count), leave hair removal to a trained professional (see: Cerologist). At-home waxing leaves a lot of room for error and chances are things could go very wrong, very fast. DIY waxing casualties include, but are not limited to: burns, bruised skin, rogue hairs left behind and more. Doesn’t sound like the smooth, flawless look you were going for. Trust us when we say: it’s not worth it!

5. Put Down That Razor

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, shaving before your wax is a big no. If you’re really looking to be hair free, you should be growing your hair out for at least three to four weeks before coming in for your wax. That means no shaving in between! Obviously, everyone’s hair grows at a different pace, but you should be looking for hair that’s at least a quarter inch in length. Our custom wax wraps around the entire hair and in order for the wax to lift the hair successfully, it needs something to hold onto! Not only that, but you won’t get as smooth of a finish and this causes your hair to grow back even faster.

6. Exfoliate & Moisturize

Refer back to number 3 where we said your results are dependent on preparation. Part of that preparation includes exfoliating and moisturizing prior to your appointment. This ensures that your skin and your hair are as soft as possible, which makes the waxing process much easier and more thorough. Start gently exfoliating about a week or so before your appointment. This helps all those hairs break through and makes it much easier for your Cerologist to pull them from the root. Plus, swimming in water can expose your delicate skin to bacteria, so you may want to stay landside. It’s also important to avoid excessive sweating. This means staying away from hot yoga, saunas or intense workouts. Your Cerologist wants you to love your wax, and your results are dependent on following after-care instructions.

8. You Have Options

Your wax appointment is for you and about you! Your Cerologist wants you to know that no matter what service they’re providing, you have options to personalize your experience and look. There are a couple things you should consider when scheduling your appointment. Waxing too soon after your previous wax is something you want to avoid in order to make sure you have adequate regrowth of us to remove. Again, it depends on your hair-growth speed, but try to aim for an appointment at least 3-6 weeks after your last appointment. And this goes without saying, but time your wax appointments around your social events. Every brow waxing service starts with a one-on-one brow mapping consultation with your Cerologist. “We know how nerve-racking a brow wax can be, so we guide you through the process as much as possible,” says Arlotta.

During your consultation, your wax technician will give you a mirror and show you the three important points of your brow:

The lowest point (the beginning of the brow)
The highest point (the arch)
The end of the brow (the tail)

And by that we mean: Don’t wax or pluck any part of your eyebrows while they are growing back in. Removing hairs at different phases of the growth cycle can lead to uneven brows and poor waxing results because it’s harder for the wax to grab onto short hairs that haven’t grown in fully.

Pro tip: Take a close-up photo of your brows at the start of your regrowth journey. Compare it to a new photo after two weeks to see how much progress you’ve made. This small step can help you stay patient and avoid the urge to overcorrect mid-growth.

2. Embrace oils and serums

Certain hair and skin products can help your eyebrows grow back faster — and may even prevent hair loss. Look for gentle oils, serums, and ingredients like:

Waxing is one of the most efficient and effective ways to remove unwanted hair and reveal smooth, glowing skin. You probably know that — but do you know how long a wax lasts? Or how frequently to wax for the best results? We’re breaking down the waxing timeline so you can book smarter, glow longer, and keep that freshly waxed confidence going strong by answering your questions about waxing and hair growth, including:

How does hair regrowth work?
How long does waxing last (by type)?
How can you make your hair removal results last longer?

The cycles of hair growth

Before we answer the question, “How long does it take for hair to grow back after waxing?” let’s talk about the phases of hair removal and growth.

The hair growth cycle is a three-act play, broken down into phases:

Growing (anagen) phase: At any given time, 90% of your hair follicles are in the growth phase. This is when hair cells divide, and hair sprouts and grows.
Transitional (catagen) phase: During this phase, a small percentage of hair gets cut off from its base and loses its blood supply. Think: waxing, shaving, or threading.
Resting (telogen) phase: The remainder of your hair is in the resting phase, when it’s pushed out of the skin and falls out. After the telogen phase, the cycle repeats, starting with the anagen phase.

The length of your personal hair growth cycle depends on several factors, including age, sex, diet, stress, medical conditions, and hormonal health. So if your hair seems to grow faster than your bestie’s, blame biology — not your wax.

How long does waxing last?

Depending on what part of your body you’re waxing — as well as your pre- and post-wax care — you’ll have smooth, hair-free skin for at least two to three weeks after your waxing services. Let’s talk about some of the other frequently asked questions about hair removal and the regrowth cycle.

How long does waxing last the first time?

After your first professional wax appointment, your hair should start growing back after one to two weeks. This is because the hair that hasn’t broken through the skin yet can’t be removed from the root. If you wax consistently — about every three to four weeks — you’ll likely find that it starts to take longer for your body hair to grow back. When you wax frequently, your Cerologist can remove more hairs that are in the transitional and resting phases.

Does it matter what type of wax is used?

The type of wax your Cerologist uses doesn’t determine how long your wax lasts, but it can impact the quality of your results and your overall experience. At Waxing the City, we don’t just grab any wax and go. We use the good stuff. Our custom hard and soft waxes are designed to deliver smooth, less ouchy results, no matter where you wax. Each differs in formulation and removal technique to give you the smoothest results possible.

Hard wax is best for smaller or more sensitive areas of the body. It’s applied in a thick layer when warm and hardens on the skin, so it “shrink wraps” to the hair. Your Cerologist doesn’t have to use cloth strips for removal because the wax itself acts as a strip. Hard wax works best for:

The more you wax, the more your body hair gets the memo: “Hey, we’re not doing this anymore,” by growing back lighter, finer, and sparser. Regular waxing can make hair grow back slower over time, but it won’t stop hair growth completely. (Take this as an excuse to keep pampering yourself year-round!)

How long does an underarm wax last?

A typical underarm wax lasts anywhere from two to four weeks before hair regrowth becomes noticeable. This may happen quicker if you have dark or thick hair. However, as with any waxing service, regular waxing can slow your hair growth and keep your underarms smoother, longer.

How long does an eyebrow wax last?

Whether you’re getting rid of stray eyebrow hairs or want more extensive shaping, an eyebrow wax lasts anywhere from two to four weeks, depending on how dark and thick your brow hairs are — and how fast they grow.

It may be tempting to tweeze away hair as it grows in, but it’s best to hold off and leave those stray hairs to the professionals. Brow hairs have different growth cycles, and waxing removes hairs at the same growth stage. This makes it easier to maintain the shape longer. Tweezing disrupts the growth cycle by removing hairs at different stages, meaning you’ll likely need more frequent upkeep and grooming.

How long does a Brazilian wax last?

A Brazilian wax, which removes all the hair in your pubic area from front to back, typically lasts three to four weeks, depending on how much hair you remove. If you wax regularly, a Brazilian may last five to six weeks as hair growth slows.

How long does a bikini wax last?

Similar to a Brazilian, a bikini wax removes all the hair on the outside of your panty line or thigh crease. This kind of wax typically lasts about four weeks, and your hair should be ¼” to ½” in length before you book your next appointment to ensure the service is effective.

How long does leg waxing last?

Since you’re removing hair from the root, a leg wax lasts longer than shaving. It usually takes one to two weeks for hair to start growing back, and even longer for the hair to grow out enough for another appointment. Over time, you can go four to six weeks between appointments.

Bakuchiol is a more natural alternative to retinol. It’s derived from the seeds and leaves of the babchi plant and has been used in Indian Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine practices for years. Like retinol, it’s an antioxidant, but unlike retinol, it doesn’t lead to dryness or irritation, which means you don’t have to stop using it to wax.

What’s the Difference Between Bakuchiol and Retinol?
